Summary

The premiere episode of a new version of this comedic interview series hosted by Steve Allen. Highlights of this program include the following segments: Allen talks to a group of women about where they are from and what brought them to the show; a nineteen-year-old from Chicago gives Allen a kiss; the music group The Gordian Knot performs a song; Allen reads a humorous telegram from Mike Douglas; Allen explains why he does not have an announcer on the program; Mel Brooks talks about his new film "The Producers," the reason he hired Gene Wilder, and Brooklyn; a clip of "The Producers" is shown which features the production number "Springtime for Hitler in Germany"; Allen reads a letter from Peter Sellers in which he praises "The Producers"; Susan Barrett sings "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You"; Brooks and Allen perform a not-so-funny sketch called "Kaliedascope" and spend most of their time attempting to make up for the lack of humor in the piece; and a trainer brings a wrestling tiger named G.T. onto the set. Commercials deleted. Includes a promo for this program. This program contains minor technical problems. This represents the best copy of this program currently available to the Museum.
