STEPHEN KING'S THE STAND: PART 2: THE DREAMS (TV)

Summary

Part two in this four-part drama based on Stephen King's best-selling novel about a deadly plague that escapes from a U.S. government lab, leaving only a chosen few survivors to take a stand against the forces of evil. In part two, as chaos gives way to near-extinction, survivors of the plague across the country begin to find each other and discover that they're having the same dreams. They all dream of Mother Abigail calling them to her home in Nebraska, and of an evil man whom they instinctively fear. When Fran's father dies, she and her neighbor Harold Lauder depart for Nebraska together. In New York, Larry encounters Nadine Church and they flee southward as well. However, when Nadine dreams that the "dark man," Randall Flagg, wants her for his wife, she leaves Larry behind. Some time later, Larry finds new travel partners in Lucy Swann and a boy she finds along the way. Having escaped from the disease control center, Stu heads toward Massachusetts, where he passes the home of the elderly Glen Bateman. Just as Stu and Glen are making plans to go to Nebraska, Fran and Harold pass by and the four decide to travel together, despite lovelorn Harold's concern that Stu will steal Fran from him. In Oklahoma, Nick meets a mentally retarded man named Tom Cullen and in spite of their communication problems, they too head toward Mother Abigail's. On the way, they're picked up by Ralph Bretner, and are the first to arrive at the old woman's house. They're as surprised that Mother Abigail is real, as she is that they knew to come to her. She explains that God has chosen them to do his work, whether they believe in him or not. The group moves on to Boulder, Colorado and waits for the others to arrive. In the meantime, Flagg has recruited a number of supporters, including a demented pyromaniac known as "Trashcan Man," and has established a base in Las Vegas. Includes commercials, promos, public service announcements, and an "ABC News Brief." This program is closed-captioned.
