MIAMI VICE: OUT WHERE THE BUSES DON'T RUN (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas concerning Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, undercover detectives for the Miami vice squad. In this episode, retired vice cop Hank Weldon appears suddenly at the station to inform his old mates that a legendary drug dealer named Tony Arcaro, thought to be dead for years, is alive and secretly heading a major Miami drug operation. Though Weldon's behavior is bizarre and erratic, his past record in the department is sterling enough that Crockett and Tubbs join him, with reservations, on the search for Arcaro. Increasingly suspicious of Weldon's behavior, they visit his ex-partner Lang, who tells them that Weldon, once a brilliant detective, snapped when Arcaro walked off on a technicality after Weldon spent three years on his case. Lang says that Arcaro has indeed been dead for years, hit from within his own organization, and that Weldon is insane and unable to let go of him. Exasperated, Crockett and Tubbs don't know whether to trust Weldon or have him committed. However, in short order, he shows them a highly sophisticated computer system he has in his apartment, filled with information about Arcaro and his associates; is able to predict the occurrence of a gangster hit in a restaurant; and leads the squad to a major drug delivery by boat -- though he gets hysterical when Arcaro is not on board as he expected. After the bust, Castillo gets a cryptic phone call from Weldon, which eventually leads Crockett and Tubbs to an abandoned house where the deranged ex-cop is waiting...and the truth about Arcaro is finally revealed.
