MIAMI VICE: BROTHER'S KEEPER {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in this series of police dramas concerning Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, undercover detectives for the Miami vice squad. In this two-hour opening episode, Crockett and Tubbs work together for the first time as they go after Calderone, a drug kingpin against whom both have a grudge to settle. Tubbs, a New York City cop whose brother was killed by Calderone, comes to Miami posing as an undercover Jamaican dealer. He ends up being in on a deal set up by Crockett, whose partner was recently "offed" by the druglord. Only after Tubbs steals CrockettÕs boat as a getaway vehicle, and Crockett catches him, do they realize that theyÕre both on the same side. Later, when a "drug mule" turns up dead just before he was scheduled to go into protective custody, Tubbs begins to suspect that thereÕs a leak in CrockettÕs department. Traced phone numbers implicate Lt. Wheeler, CrockettÕs old partner. After Crockett rescues Tubbs from a set-up, the duo head off to meet Calderone face-to-face. Tubbs passes up a chance to kill Calderone, and the drug kingpin is put in jail. The next morning, Crockett and Tubbs go to transfer their catch to an out-of-the-way prison where no corrupt judge can get him out, but theyÕre too late. Helplessly, they watch CalderoneÕs plane take off with him safely on board. In a subplot, Crockett tries to come to grips with the failure of his marriage and becomes romantically entangled with Gina, another detective. Commercials deleted.
