UNNATURAL PURSUITS, PART 1: I'M THE AUTHOR (TV)
Summary
Part one of two in this British comedy/fantasy with occasional song-and-dance numbers. Hamish Partt is a hard-drinking, chain-smoking playwright whose health and sense of reality slip away as he attempts to perfect his new play during successive productions in London and America. Not only is Partt's constitution failing him, but he has begun to experience hallucinations and blackouts as well. A man named "Blossom" seeks him out, offering him help with his problem, but Partt ignores him. After the less than successful debut of his new play in London, he accepts an offer to take the play to Los Angeles, where it will be produced by a small theatre company. However, he soon finds himself out of place and out of sorts in the sunny world of L.A., where the actors vote to have him removed from the rehearsal hall for smoking, and the director completely misunderstands his work. Partt quickly grows sick of southern California and the strange and frightening skateboarder who keeps appearing everywhere. After the L.A. premiere, he accepts an offer from Digby Mason, the managing director of a theater in Dallas, to bring the play to Texas.
