Summary
Part one of two. One in this mystery anthology series. Host Diana Rigg introduces part one of this two-part program, the first in the series to depict Chief Inspector Alleyn of Scotland Yard, an upper-class detective traumatized by his experiences in World War II. In this episode, Alleyn is recalled from his holiday to Scotland Yard to investigate the apparent suicide of an artist who had been painting a portrait of the King of England. Though restricted from pursuing a blackmail case against the artist's model, Sonia Gluck, whose crimes might have led the painter to his premature death, Alleyn learns that Gluck also poses for artists at a workshop run by Agatha Troy, a painter he met on holiday. When Gluck is discovered dead at Troy's workshop studio, Alleyn is assigned to investigate the workshop artists, each of whom -- including possible love interest Troy -- is a suspect in the murder of the troublesome model.
