Summary
Part one of two. One in this mystery anthology series. Host Diana Rigg introduces this program about a crotchety, middle-aged, ale-drinking British police inspector. In part one, Morse and his right-hand man, Detective Sergeant Lewis, are brought in to investigate the theft of paintings from the commissioner's friend Sir Julius Hanbury's collection of Victorian nudes. As Sir Julius cannot be found on his estate or at his office at Oxford's Courtney College, Morse and Lewis question Lady Hanbury, housekeeper Mrs. Maltby, handyman John McKendrick, and au pair Michelle Reage. The investigation takes a sinister turn when Morse and Lewis discover Sir Julius's body in the family mausoleum, after which Morse broadens the investigation to include Sir Julius's colleagues at Courtney College, against whom he was competing for the influential position of College Master. The plot thickens when the au pair's boyfriend, Roger Meadows, dies in a sabotaged car. Continues with T:29975.
