STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: DEVIL'S DUE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction programs about the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the 24th century. This sequel to the original "Star Trek" series is set approximately 85 years after the journey of the first Enterprise crew. In this episode, an emergency transmission to the Enterprise indicates that the planet Ventax II has been seized by mass hysteria. Capt. Picard learns that the people of Ventax II believe that their ancestors made a bargain with a shape-changing devil named Ardra. This bargain allowed her to enslave the inhabitants of Ventax II for eternity if they were granted 1000 years of peace and prosperity. A series of earthquakes convinces the Ventaxians, who have enjoyed paradise for the allotted time period, that Ardra has returned to ensure that they honor their side of the contract. When Ardra makes the Enterprise vanish, Picard offers his eternal soul for the opportunity to prove in a courtroom that this alleged devil is really a con artist, with Lt. Cmdr. Data judging the dispute. Commercials deleted. (This program is closed-captioned.)
