ST. ELSEWHERE: AFTER LIFE (TV)
Summary
One in this medical drama series set in St. Eligius hospital in Boston. In this episode, Dr. Wayne Fiscus is accidentally shot in the chest and has a near-death experience. Fiscus and Dr. Jaqueline Wade are treating a man named Sydney Kurtz for a head wound inflicted by his irate wife when she discovered that he was unfaithful to her. Suddenly, Kurtz's wife rushes into the emergency room and begins shooting at him wildly, accidentally hitting Fiscus. While the staff tries to save Fiscus, his spirit leaves his critically wounded body and the hospital, and he finds himself in a desert (filmed on location in Page, Ariz.). Unwilling to believe that he is dead, the bewildered Fiscus journeys through heaven, hell, and purgatory, trying to understand the meaning of life and the afterlife. In the process, he meets up with some familiar people who try to help him -- Eve Leighton, Dr. Peter White, and two former patients -- but Fiscus determines that only God can give him the answers he needs.
