Summary
in this musical comedy/variety special, a preview of Cher's new television series, Cher welcomes special guests Elton John, Flip Wilson, and Bette Midler. Cher opens the program by singing "Let Me Entertain You" and tells the audience that she has been apprehensive about working on her own. Musical highlights include Elton John performing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"; Cher and Midler with a medley about "trashy" women, including "Put the Blame on Mame" and "Sweet Georgia Brown"; and Cher and John singing "Benny and the Jets." Comedy sketches include two ex-cheerleaders, "our lady of the launderette" Laverne (Cher) and Geraldine Jones, played by Wilson, at their high school reunion; Cher in a commercial spoof, "Break-O-Matic," and coming home from a terrible date to talk about the dating scene; and Cher and her special guests playing themselves fifty years in the future at the "Final Curtain Rest Home for Aged Performers." The program concludes with Cher and her guests performing a medley that includes "Mockingbird," "Proud Mary," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and "Never Can Say Goodbye."
