LAW & ORDER {LAW AND ORDER}: LIFE CHOICE (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas that deals with the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of criminals. The first half of each episode concerns the police procedure that leads to the arrest of a suspect, while the second half covers the efforts of the district attorney to prosecute the case. In this episode, Detective Sergeant Max Greevey and Detective Mike Logan investigate the bombing of an abortion clinic. They believe that the one person killed by the bomb, Mary Donovan, was responsible for the explosion. A teacher at a parochial school, she at first appears to be a martyr who sacrificed her life in order to save the lives of unborn children. However, the police detectives soon discover that Mary was not at the clinic to prevent abortions from being performed, but rather to have one herself. Greevey and Logan, after much investigation, learn that Celeste, a young woman in her early twenties, made the bomb. They realize that to become involved in the bombing, Celeste, who has a clean record, must have been influenced by someone she admired. Assistant district attorneys Ben Stone and Paul Robinette manage to get Celeste to admit who ordered the attack on the clinic and set out to prosecute a famous anti-abortion activist, Rose Schwimmer. Meanwhile, Greevey and Logan find themselves on opposite sides of the abortion issue while District Attorney Adam Schiff wonders if Stone, who is opposed to abortion, can handle the case objectively.
