AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: TRIPLE PLAY II {PEACEMAKER/ASTRONOMY/THE PRICE OF LIFE} (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series. This compilation contains three short films, with an introduction by actor John Randolph. In the first film, "Peacemaker," David remembers an incident from his childhood in the 1950's. As a boy, Davy lives in fear of the atomic bomb and is fascinated by weapon superiority, but his father teaches him an important lesson. In the second film, "Astronomy," a little girl lives with her ineffectual mother in a trailer park in virtual poverty, and the girl tries to help earn money by shining shoes. After a particularly terrible day, a young boy shares a wonderful secret with her.

In the third film, "The Price of Life," a person's time is money -- literally. Prices are the equivalent of minutes or days off one's life, and bartering for time can become an obsession. A boy, Zachary, grows into manhood wheeling and dealing for time, in the hopes of becoming rich and fending off death. Zachary tries to advance a tree-selling scheme, but when he learns of the impending death of his mother, he decides to travel to "The Valley of the Old Ones" to ask if he may give away some of his years to save her. While in the valley, he meets the mysterious, rich woman he remembers from his childhood. Commercials deleted.
