MUPPETS GO HOLLYWOOD, THE (TV)
Summary
In a parody of the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, this special celebrates the premiere of the Muppets' first feature film, "The Muppet Movie." At the Cocoanut Grove nightclub, Dick Van Dyke and Rita Moreno interview the wide array of celebrities and Muppets who turn out for the Tinseltown event. Highlights include the following: the Muppets and their guests arrive in limousines; Moreno conducts a prerecorded poolside interview with Miss Piggy; the Peter Matz orchestra plays "How High the Moon," featuring a solo by Muppet musician Zoot on sax; Miss Piggy arrives on a chaise carried by four bronzed bodybuilders; Johnny Mathis sings "Never Before, Never Again" from "The Muppet Movie," with piano accompaniment by Rowlf the Dog; Van Dyke serenades Miss Piggy with "You Oughta Be in Pictures"; lyricist Paul Williams and composer Kenny Ascher perform "The Rainbow Connection," one of their songs from the film; and Moreno is joined by three awkward Muppets in a Carmen Miranda dance routine. Also included are appearances by Raquel Welch, Burt Bacharach, Peter Falk, Vincent Price, Candice Bergen, Ethel Merman, Steve Allen, John Forsythe, Jean Stapleton, Cheryl Ladd, Liberace, Phyllis Diller, Red Buttons, Christopher Reeve, LeVar Burton, Charles Durning, Jim Henson, and many others. Clips from "The Muppet Movie" feature appearances by Dom DeLuise and Steve Martin.
