FRANKIE HOWERD REVEALS ALL . . . WELL, MOST {DAVID FROST PRESENTS} (TV)

Summary

This comedy/variety special, hosted by David Frost, features performances by British comedian Frankie Howerd and other guests. After introductory remarks by Frost, Howerd delivers his opening monologue, in which he makes fun of Frost's celebrity status. Next comes a comic sketch in which Howerd visits a "typical" English pub in order to familiarize the American audience with different types of English people. In the pub, Howerd gets involved in a dispute between an Irish man and a Scottish man over the quality of Irish and Scotch whisky. Next, Howerd impersonates a greedy English vicar whose sermon focuses on the subject of the congregation's offerings. A musical performance follows by singer Deena Webster. In the next sketch, Howerd and a fellow comedian both claim to be experts on love and romance, and they compete, using their suave techniques, to seduce a young woman. Singer Paul McCartney then joins Howerd; after a brief casual conversation, McCartney discusses the Apple Records label and introduces a new artist from Apple, Mary Hopkin, who performs the song "House of the Rising Sun." In the final sketch, Howerd performs a "dramatic" musical monologue about a man who contemplates suicide by drowning after his wife leaves him. Commercials deleted.
