CHINA BEACH: I COULD HAVE DANCED ALL NIGHT. . . BUT DIDN'T (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series, set during the Vietnam War, which focuses on the women stationed at China Beach, a combined U.S. Armed Forces hospital and USO recreational facility located near the South China Sea. This episode flashes back and forth between a 1983 wedding where McMurphy serves as maid of honor, and 1969 in China Beach. In 1983, the song "I Could Have Danced All Night" triggers McMurphy's memory of the China Beach production of "My Fair Lady": in 1969, Lila decides to stage the musical production in order to boost morale and bring folks together. And after Sarge proposes, soon Lila is also planning her own wedding. In 1983, McMurphy meets one of the wedding entertainers, who is also the best man. As they begin flirting, she becomes uncomfortable after another flashback: in 1969, Dr. Richard, to McMurphy's chagrin, has become romantically involved with his co-star in "My Fair Lady." McMurphy eventually confronts him, and they finally discuss their deep feelings for one another. However, just as they prepare to make a commitment to each other, Dr. Richard gets news from home that dramatically changes the circumstances. The episode concludes in 1983 as McMurphy, moved by the song from "My Fair Lady," asks the best man to dance. Commercials include Ray Charles for Pepsi and Judy Brown for MCI; public service announcements include Mary Tyler Moore for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements. This program is closed-captioned.
