ABC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE: OUR SONS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of movies presented by ABC. In this drama, a wealthy widow named Audrey Grant, learns from her son, James, that his longtime lover, Donald, has been hospitalized for complications from AIDS and does not have long to live. James explains that his lover's mother, Luanne Barnes, has not spoken to Donald for eleven years because of his sexual orientation. Audrey feels that Luanne should be informed about her son's condition. James, knowing what would happen if he called Luanne himself, suggests that Audrey travel to Arkansas where Luanne is living and tell her in person. James and Audrey hope that Luanne will want to see her son, who is afraid to call himself. Audrey visits Luanne and tells her the tragic news about Donald -- and Luanne blurts out that he deserves everything he gets for his actions. Shocked by Luanne's defiant homophobia, Audrey returns to her hotel room and plans to fly back to California alone. Late that night, she receives a call from Luanne, who has changed her mind and wants to see her son before he dies. Audrey and Luanne travel to California together and discuss their feelings about their sons' homosexuality. Luanne realizes that Audrey is uneasy with James's sexual orientation just as she is with Donald's. Meanwhile, Donald attempts to deal with his mother's impending arrival. Luanne has an awkward, but productive visit with Donald, who decides to leave the hospital and spend his last days at his and James's home. During that time, Audrey, Luanne, and their sons confront the unresolved issues between them. Meanwhile, James must accept the fact that he needs to be tested for HIV. Includes commercials, promos, PSAs, and an ABC News Brief. This program is closed-captioned.
