TWILIGHT ZONE, THE: A PASSAGE FOR TRUMPET (TV)
Summary
One in this science fiction/fantasy anthology series hosted by Rod Serling. In this episode, Joey Crown, a down-and-out trumpet player, learns a valuable lesson after a near-death experience. Beset with alcoholism and declining skills, Joey can no longer get work as a musician. In desperation, he pawns his trumpet, gets drunk, and upon seeing his horn in the pawnshop window, decides to end his life by throwing himself in front of a truck. When he comes to and begins walking through his neighborhood, he realizes that no one can see or hear him, and concludes that he must be a ghost. While this at first pleases him, upon reflection Joey begins to regret his decision to kill himself, realizing that even the hardest of lives has its small joys. Later, Joey hears beautiful trumpet music and encounters a mysterious musician, who explains that Joey is not dead but in a state of limbo, and has the choice to stay or go back to his old life. Includes commercials, a promo, and a public service announcement.
