DREAM ON: DEATH TAKES A COFFEE BREAK (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. In this episode, Martin is awakened at 6:30 a.m. by the exterminator which sets off "one of those days" in his life. His morning meetings with writers are a series of miseries before he heads to a blind double date with Eddie. The women end up being "twelve" -- as in years old, in Martin's opinion -- before he actually learns they're N.Y.U. students who attended one of Eddie's guest lectures. Surprisingly, Martin finds himself falling for one of the girls, Robin, and even ends up making out with the twenty-year-old. Then, in the throes of passion, Martin has some chest problems, landing him in the emergency room. Later, his doctor instructs him to quit doing things "unusually strenuous" and to clean up his lifestyle, most notably eliminating his beloved coffee due to its caffeine content. Without his joe, Martin becomes incredibly high-strung, barely able to get through his day. He returns home, concerned about his health. Eventually, Martin heads to Judith's, wanting to see Jeremy due to increasing worries about his own mortality. Afterward, he returns home to find Robin waiting for him, his health problems all of a sudden the last thing on his mind.
