WHITE SHADOW, THE: THE DEATH OF ME YET (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about Ken Reeves, a former professional basketball player who begins a new life as the basketball coach of Carver High, an inner-city high school in Los Angeles. In this episode, the Carver High team is on their way to the city championship game, which Reeves knows will be a tough challenge. In the meantime, he feels added pressure because the local college is calling him about a coaching position. The team throws a party to celebrate, but they run out of wine. Everyone but Jackson is too drunk to buy more alcohol, so Jackson walks over to the liquor store. While Jackson purchases more wine, two gunmen burst in and rob the store. The proprietor gives them the money but pulls out his gun as the thieves are leaving, and a shootout ensues. Reeves is stunned upon learning that Jackson was shot and killed in the liquor store robbery. He proposes calling off the city championship game but addresses his team first. The team votes to play the game in honor of Jackson, but Reeves is uncertain that they are prepared for the biggest game of their lives. Following the last practice before the game, Reeves encounters Jackson's little brother, who is cleaning out his dead brother's locker, and he knows that his team must win the game. As game time arrives, Reeves announces his future coaching plans to his team. Following the city championship, Reeves speaks about Jackson at the awards ceremony and asks his little brother to accept a trophy in Jackson's name. Commercials deleted.
