WOMEN OF BREWSTER PLACE, THE {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

A two-part made-for-television movie based on the novel by Gloria Naylor in which seven strong-willed women living in a rundown housing project called Brewster Place find strength through their friendship over many decades. As Part Two begins, Kiswana tries to recruit more locals for the tenants association, including the stubborn Cora Lee. To help forge a bond between them, Kiswana invites Cora Lee and her six children to a hip-hop neighborhood version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." In the meantime, Ciel and her husband argue over his claim that he has a job offer in Maine, during which their unwatched baby daughter electrocutes herself. After the funeral, Ciel tries to kill herself. Though Mattie nurses her back to health, Ciel subsequently disappears. Mattie and Etta Mae attend a revival meeting, with Etta Mae falling for the reverend -- with predictably disastrous results. When closeted lesbians Lorraine and Theresa move into Brewster Place, Miss Sophie makes it her business to cause trouble for them. A block party for all of the Brewster Place residents causes tensions to finally erupt, resulting in an act of violence that leads to madness, murder, and Mattie's long-suppressed need to undertake some drastic actions. This program is closed-captioned. Includes commercials.
