THIRTYSOMETHING: SOUTH BY SOUTHEAST (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas about the personal and professional dilemmas confronting a close-knit group of friends -- urban baby boomers in their thirties -- living in Philadelphia. In this episode, complications ensue when Gary has an affair with a married woman. When Gary tells Mrs. Jenny Vandamm that he is actually in love with Eve, Jenny becomes angry and storms out of his apartment. That night, Gary and Eve return to his apartment after dinner and find that someone has broken in and written death threats on his walls. Gary, Elliot, and Michael do some detective work and determine that Dr. Vandamm, Jenny's husband, is responsible for the damage. They attempt to prove his culpability by spending the night watching his house. When they finish their stakeout, a message from Jenny is on Gary's answering machine, stating that her husband knows everything. Eve overhears the message and walks out on Gary. A bewildered Gary takes a nap and imagines that he is getting advice from his friends in the settings of various Alfred Hitchcock movies. In the end, Gary decides that he must face his problem with Vandamm and Eve alone and head on. Commercials deleted.
