THIS IS AMERICA, CHARLIE BROWN: THE WRIGHT BROTHERS AT KITTY HAWK (TV)
Summary
One in this eight-part miniseries which stars the "Peanuts" characters as they are transported into the past and future to participate in various events in American history. In this episode, part three of eight, the "Peanuts" gang joins the Wright brothers for their historic flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Sally opens the program with a timeline of human flight, including Leonardo da Vinci's drawings of a flying machine and Otto Lilienthal's first glider. Linus and Charlie Brown travel to Kitty Hawk to visit Linus's cousin Dolly for the holidays. Dolly tells them about Orville and Wilbur Wright, whose plans to fly in a glider with a motor and a propeller are set for the following day. The next morning, the three set out for the beach, where the Wright brothers are testing the conditions for flight. On the way, Charlie Brown bangs up the front tire of his bike, and Dolly tells him that the Wright brothers, who own a bicycle shop at their home in Dayton, Ohio, may be able to fix it. At the beach, Dolly, Linus, and Charlie Brown meet up with Peppermint Patty and Marcie, who show the newcomers the Wright brothers' plane, gliders, and kites. When the others urge Charlie Brown to fly one of the kites, disaster ensues, and the kite is broken. The Wright brothers do not mind, however. They ask the gang to help them get their flying machine off the ground. With the help of the "Peanuts" crew, first Orville and then Wilbur get the plane in the air. In the meantime, Snoopy and Woodstock have been working on their own flying machine. Commercials deleted.
