KRAFT MUSIC HALL, THE: WOODY ALLEN LOOKS AT 1967 (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs. This program features Liza Minnelli, Aretha Franklin, and John Byner in a tongue-in-cheek look back at the year 1967 hosted by Woody Allen, who appears in all of the skits. Highlights include Allen with a routine about his attempt to enlist in the army; Allen and Minnelli as a husband and wife clashing over one of the latest fads -- mini-skirts; and a spoof on performers entering politics, with Allen as "Baby Bobby Dimple," a former child star who decides to run for the Senate. In a question-and-answer session with Allen and special guest William F. Buckley, Jr., audience members ask them to express their views about current issues, including possible presidential nominees, whether Sen. Robert F. Kennedy will run for president, and the situation in the Middle East. Allen gives his definition of a liberal and gives his opinion of the possibility of a conservative president, while Buckley offers his opinions about mini-skirts, discotheques, Charles de Gaulle, war, and people who have refused to appear on his TV program, "Firing Line." Musical highlights include Franklin singing "Respect" and "Chain of Fools," and Minnelli performing a special rendition of "Feelin' Groovy" and "My Beautiful Balloon." The program concludes with a spoof entitled "Bonnie's Clyde," a parody of the popular film released in 1967, with Allen as "Warren Beauty" (Clyde) and Minnelli as "Faye O'Laye" (Bonnie). Commercials deleted.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by Bill Lambert.
