JACKIE GLEASON SHOW, THE {THE HONEYMOONERS: THE HONEYMOONERS IN ENGLAND} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy/variety series featuring Jackie Gleason. This episode is a remake of the "Honeymooners" episode "Mad Dogs and Englishmen," which aired March 9, 1957. In this special series of musical-comedy sketches based on "The Honeymooners," bus driver Ralph Kramden, his wife, Alice, and their friends Ed and Trixie Norton have won a trip around the world in a contest held by the Flakey Wakey cereal company. In this sketch, the Kramdens and Nortons stay in London and appear in a commercial for British television. While sightseeing, they are contacted by Charles Lewis, the London representative of the Flakey Wakey company, who asks them to appear on a Flakey Wakey television show with Gaylord Farquard. Ralph writes and directs a Flakey Wakey commercial that takes place on the country estate of Lord Chumley Farthing-Gay, second Earl of Rathbone, played by Ralph, and Lady Penelope Farthing-Gay, Duchess of Rathbone, played by Alice, while Trixie plays the maid and Ed plays the butler. After rehearsing for the big night, they prepare for their performance on "The Gaylor Farquard Show," but Ralph suffers a severe case of stage fright. Includes commercials and promos. (This is a black and white copy of a program that was originally broadcast in color.)
(Series title varies; "The Jackie Gleason Show" from 1952-1961 and 1966-1970; "Jackie Gleason and His American Scene Magazine" from 1962-1966. "The Honeymooners" spin-off replaced the variety series 1955-1956.)
