Summary
One in this series of whimsical adaptations of fairy tales hosted by Shelley Duvall. As this version of the classic tale "Rapunzel" begins, a pregnant woman craves radishes in the middle of the night. Each time she gets the urge for them, she asks her husband to enter their neighbor's garden and steal some for her to eat. Although her husband is sure that their neighbor is a witch, he agrees to go. The first time he makes it safely back to his wife, but the second time he is caught by the witch, who agrees not to harm him or his wife in exchange for their as-yet-unborn child. The couple hopes that the witch will forget about the incident, but three months after their daughter is born, the witch kidnaps the child and vanishes. The child, Rapunzel, grows up believing that the witch is her mother. As Rapunzel begins to mature, the witch becomes afraid that a man will appear and take Rapunzel away from her, so she locks the girl in a tower. One day, a prince (played by Jeff Bridges), who has lost his way, stumbles upon the tower, and he and Rapunzel fall in love. The two plan to run away together, but the witch discovers their secret before Rapunzel can make her escape, and the prince and Rapunzel must find a way to overcome her evil influence.
