MOONLIGHTING: ATOMIC SHAKESPEARE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedic private detective series about David Addison and Maddie Hayes of the Blue Moon Detective Agency. This episode is framed by a segment in which a boy's mother forbids him to watch "Moonlighting" because he must study for his Shakespeare exam. The boy mopes to his room and begins reading "The Taming of the Shrew," and thus begins a version of Shakespeare's comedy starring the Blue Moon staff, with a decidedly feminist point of view. In Padua, Italy, in 1593, young Lucentio and gentle Bianca fall in love. However, Bianca's rich father will not give her hand in marriage until his older daughter, Katherina, is married off first. Shrewish Kate has frightened off the bravest of suitors, and even her huge dowry is not enough to win her a husband. Enter Petruchio, a fearless fortune hunter from Verona. Petruchio makes a deal with Kate's father in which he will receive a large sum upon proving that he has tamed Kate; and she is brought bound and gagged to the altar. Time elapses and it appears that not only has Petruchio tamed Kate, but she has tamed him as well. When Petruchio brings Kate back to Padua to prove to her father that she has changed, the entire town holds its collective breath to see how Kate will behave. Includes commercials, promos, and an "ABC News Brief" with Brit Hume. This program is closed-captioned.
