DUDLEY DO-RIGHT AND FRIENDS (TV)
Summary
One in this animated series about an artless, chivalrous
Royal Canadian Mountie, whose preposterous yet
well-meaning deeds cause him to be an ineffectual
failure. In this episode, Dudley Do-Right finds himself
repeatedly tied to the railroad tracks, alongside
damsels in distress, by Snidely Whiplash. Inspector
Fenwick comes up with a plan for Dudley to go
undercover and dress up as Nell, but the plan backfires
when Nells seem to pop up everywhere. In the first of
a series of breaks from the Mountie, "Get 'em up Scout,"
King Leonardo's twin nephews Duke and Earl visit and
wreak havoc all over the castle. When Leonardo
unwittingly becomes their scout leader more trouble
ensues. "The World of Commander McBragg" finds the
explorer pulling himself out of scrapes while going over
Niagara Falls in a barrel as well as walking a tightrope
over Victoria Falls. In "The Pickpocket Pickle," The
Fox steals wallets from an amusement park's customers,
and escapes by leading the Hunter on a wild goose chase.
Finally, the program's hero returns. "Dudley Do-Right
of the Mounties" finds Dudley allergic to marigolds.
Snidely consequently plants marigolds all over his suit
to become invincible, a trick that works until Nell
comes up with a crabgrass plan. Commercials deleted.
("The Dudley Do-Right Show" was retitled "Dudley Do
Right and Friends" when the series was rerun in
syndication. The "Friends" were component characters
from Total Television's "King Leonardo and His Short
Subjects.")
