OH MADELINE: MY MOTHER THE CARNAL (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, based on the British series "Pig in the Middle," about Madeline, a bored suburban housewife determined to find new ways to bring excitement into her life. In this episode, Madeline meticulously tidies up the house for her overly critical mother's arrival. Charlie thinks Madeline goes "bonkers" every time she deals with her mother. Meanwhile, Charlie worries about how to behave around Madeline's eccentric father. At that point, Charlotte and Reese Vernon arrive on cue to greet their daughter, after which the foursome head off for a weekend at a mountain resort. There, Madeline recalls memories of the family's summer vacations at the rustic getaway. She then wonders what they should do for fun that evening, while Charlie wants to call it a night. Then, Madeline notices an elderly man, Buddy Bliss, who used to do a comedy/magic act at the club. Quickly, Buddy recognizes Madeline and begins paying specific attention to Charlotte. Buddy invites the quartet to his show that evening. However, Charlotte has no interest in attending. Later, Madeline and Charlie go ice skating and talk about her mother and Buddy. Charlie suspects that Charlotte had an affair with Buddy. Eventually, Madeline goes looking for Buddy to question him. While hiding in one of his magic boxes, she hears the magician and her mother enter his room -- and learns that they did indeed have an affair many summers past. Meanwhile, Charlie and Reese's golf game is delayed by thunder showers. While waiting, Reese reveals to Charlie that he knows about Charlotte and Buddy's affair. Later, Madeline speaks with her mother about Buddy, and Charlotte admits that it was a mistake. Madeline is glad to know that her mother isn't as "perfect" as she pretends to be. Finally, the two compare past mistakes, noting that there's no shortage on either side. Commercials deleted.
