VOYAGE OF THE MIMI, THE: EPISODE 1: ALL ABOARD (TV)
Summary
One in this series of educational children's programs about scientific expeditions, set on a boat named the Mimi. Following each episode, a cast member meets with experts and professionals to learn about a particular field. In this episode, the Mimi crew members meet one other and Captain Granville for the first time and prepare for their first voyage. The crew members are: C.T., Captain Granville's young grandson; two gifted high school students, Rachel Fairbanks and Arthur Spencer; oceanographer Anne Abrams; marine biologist Ramon Rojas; and research assistant Sally Ruth Cochran. In the second portion, "Expedition 1 -- Planet Ocean," Ben Affleck, who plays C.T. Granville, visits Boston's New England Aquarium, where he meets marine biologist and deep sea diver Dr. Sylvia Earle. Ben and Dr. Earle discuss the following subjects, among others: the water cycle; the history of the ocean; and the latest technology in scuba diving and other diving systems that allow scientists to explore the ocean depths and floor. Ben also meets dolphin trainer Sue Sinclair, who provides some information about dolphins' adaptations for aquatic life.
