RICHARD BELZER SHOW, THE {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The premiere episode of this series about the life of comic Richard Belzer. In this episode, comedian Richard Belzer and his manager Tom Leopold attempt to successfully coordinate the first day of a documentary about the comic's life and work. In between stand-up performances by the "Belz," at New York's Catch a Rising Star comedy club, there are interviews with several of his associates, including Leopold, an actress playing Belzer's first wife, young comic Bill Scheft, and boxing promoter Don King, all of whom paint a less than attractive picture of the comedian. Also Belzer jokingly claims to have had sex with vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, and skewers the mimetic art as he performs an intentionally ridiculous act as the silent character Belp.
