ON LOCATION: FREDDIE PRINZE AND FRIENDS (TV)

Summary

This comedy special features the late actor/stand-up comedian Freddie Prinze. In this special, Prinze introduces a number of comedians including Jay Leno, Elayne Boosler, Tim Thomerson, Bob Shaw, and Muledeer. Beginning the show, Prinze rips into his classic ethnic-based routine, which includes topics such as shark attacks on minorities and how each minority would react; how families of different ethnic heritages would respond to news of the death of a loved one; what it is like being recognized from his television work; the crazy world of politics; owning a dog and watching dogs sleep; the actual reason Richard Nixon postponed a court date; having sex with women from different backgrounds and the way they react. After finishing his act, Prinze introduces the first comedian, Jay Leno. Leno talks about going to the hospital and the state of health care in the country; watching the local news shows and being amazed at some of the things the anchors say; television commercials that are beyond stupid; what it was like coming to California for the first time; and bathrooms at different establishments. Next up is comedienne Elayne Boosler. In her low-key style, she discusses what it is like going to a single's bar; being disgusted at most of the pick-up lines she hears; dating men who are much older than her; how easy it is to gain weight; and the most efficient ways to lose the weight you have gained. The third comedian is the outrageous Tim Thomerson. Specializing in physical comedy, Thomerson tells the audience what it was like growing up in San Diego and what he and his friends did for fun; the shock of moving to New York City; dating a waitress who tried to turn him on to health food; the types of people who work at health food restaurants; his impression of Charles Bronson ordering fast food; closing his routine, Thomerson does his interpretation of his favorite movie, "Stagecoach." Taking the stage next is Bob Shaw. He begins with a recent story about prostitutes from New York heading to Alaska to help the men working on the pipeline; he wonders why you have to learn so much in school, when you know you'll never use the information ever again; and he gives his impression of people who come into Baskin-Robbins ice-cream stores while on drugs. The last comedian to take the stage is the wacky Muledeer, who gives his impression of what a nightly newscast sounds like, including the background typewriter noise. Throughout his act, he attempts to sing a song but gets interrupted by some hilarious distractions.
