Summary
One in this long-running western drama series about widower Ben Cartwright, his sons, and their adventures on their ranch in Nevada's Ponderosa. In this episode, a plucky, young woman named Trudy Loughlin captures a wild stallion with the help of Hoss and Little Joe. Trudy secretly hopes to use the purebred stallion to revitalize the horse breeding ranch owned by her alcoholic father, and Joe encourages Trudy to enter her horse in a high-stake race with a $1000 prize to raise capital for the business. But Trudy's ambitions are threatened when her father decides to sell her coveted horse. Unwilling to see her horse fall into the hands of a stranger, Trudy persuades the compassionate Ben to buy the animal and the Cartwrights agree to let Trudy ride the horse in the race. When the stallion becomes the favored horse in the race, her drunken father and a cunning gambler hatch a scheme to fix the race. Through manipulation and lies, Loughlin attempts to persuade his daughter to lose the race, but his ploy fails and Trudy refuses to ride. Ben, suspecting a crooked deal, asks Loughlin to account for his behavior. In a twinge of conscience, Loughlin encourages his daughter to mount the prize steed, and as a result, he enrages the crooked gamblers and jeopardizes his life. Commercials deleted.
