BONANZA: THE WEARY WILLIES (TV)

Summary

One in this long-running western drama series about widower Ben Cartwright, his sons, and their adventures on their ranch in Nevada's Ponderosa. In this episode, a group of poor, ragged wanderers known as "Weary Willies" settle down in Virginia City, much to the chagrin of the townsfolk. The disheveled Willies, some of whom deserted their regiments during the Civil War, have long hair and would rather play music and spread a message of peace than tackle any arduous work. The Cartwrights are somewhat leery of the stragglers' presence but make an effort to accommodate them by allowing them to build a camp on the Ponderosa. The Willies' only other ally is Angie, a girl from the city who is smitten with the guitar-playing hobo Billy. When Angie is raped one night on her way home from their camp, however, the townsfolk form a vigilante posse and set their sights on the most obvious suspects -- the Willies. Includes commercials and public service announcements.
