Summary
One in this weekly drama series featuring adaptations of popular and literary classics. This version of the classic love story by Charlotte Bront‘ (1816-1855) stars Madeline Carroll as governess Jane Eyre and Orson Welles as the mysterious Mr. Rochester. In this play, the orphaned Jane emerges from a loveless childhood to gain employment at Thornfield Hall, as governess to the ward of the reticent Mr. Rochester. While Jane is unsettled by strange nocturnal sounds in the house, she nonetheless finds herself in a strong mutual attraction with the remote Rochester. The young governess soon agrees to marry Rochester, only to learn a devestating secret about his past on the day they are to be wed. Rochester confesses that he is married to an insane woman who still lives confined in Thornfield Hall. Jane leaves and returns a year later to learn that Thornfield Hall was burned to the ground, Rochester's wife killed, and Rochester blinded and living in a small house nearby. Jane and Rochester are finally reconciled and married and in a final miracle, Rochester's sight returns in time to see his first born son. Includes commercials.
