BOB HOPE SHOW, THE {SWAN SOAP SHOW} (RADIO)
Summary
One in this music/variety series hosted by Bob Hope.
Hope opens the program by giving his opinion on recent
news events including the ban on chewing gum in Berlin,
the adding of minerals to soil in order to grow
healthier vegetables, and a recent Notre Dame football
game. Then, Doris Day sings "My Darling, My Darling."
Following this, Bob Hope recalls his experiences
Christmas shopping: First, Hope bumps into an irritable
Santa, who is only looking to make a buck; then, Hope
is first thrilled and then appalled when Doris Day
agrees to help him shop for presents; finally, Hope and
Day bump into announcer Hy Averback, who tells them
about a unique Christmas tree that is on display. Next,
Bing Crosby sings "A Little Bird Told Me." Hope and
Crosby then rib each other about their shows, clothing,
age, and the fact that they have not collaborated on a
movie in a long time. Lastly, Crosby imagines what it
would have been like if he had lived in the 1800s and
had collaborated with Beethoven (Bob Hope). Includes
commercials and public service announcements.
