DIMENSION X: MARS IS HEAVEN (RADIO)
Summary
One in this science fiction anthology series. In this episode, it is 1987 and a rocket ship has made the first landing on Mars. As the landing party prepares to exit to the surface, its members speculate about what the Martians will be like and reminisce about their home towns. Only one, Dr. Horst, a holocaust survivor, is uneasy. As the party lands on the surface, they find fresh air, grass under their feet and a lovely Victorian-style house in front of them. In the house they find the grandparents of one of the landing party, who tell them that it is 1928 and claim to have been in that place since they died. Back at the ship they find that all of the crew have been reunited with family. All except Dr. Horst assume that Mars is Heaven. The captain is taken home by his brother, accompanied by Dr. Horst, whose relatives all died in Nazi gas chambers. There, Horst receives a message from Anna, who says she will be there in the morning. Not until later does Horst remember that Anna was an imaginary person he conceived to comfort himself. Horst tells the captain and they suddenly realize that this was all a ruse by the Martians in an attempt to disarm and kill invaders. In the end the captain, sole survivor of the Martian attack, tries to warn the earth of the Martians' duplicity.
