FATHER COUGHLIN: LET US CONSIDER THE RECORD (RADIO)
Summary
One in this series of weekly "sermons" by Father Charles E. Coughlin, Pastor of The Shrine of the Little Flower at Royal Oak, Michigan, on the political and social issues of the day, usually laced with Father Coughlin's crypto-Fascist, anti-Semitic rhetoric. In this sermon, "Let Us Consider the Record," Father Charles E. Coughlin cites accusations made against him after the previous week's broadcast, and reads letters of protest sent to him. He defends himself by presenting a rebroadcast of the original sermon. The sermon dealt with Nazism as a "political defense mechanism" against "Jewish-dominated communism," Jewish support of communism, and the religious persecution of Christians during the Spanish Civil War. Following the rebroadcast, Father Coughlin answers his critics and cites documents to support his position. He says that he is anti-communist, not anti-Semitic.
