Summary

One in this series of dramas re-enacting major historical events and covering them as current news stories. This program dramatizes King John's signing of the Magna Carta in June of 1215 at Runnymede, England. Highlights of this dramatization include the following: it is explained that the articles of the document constitute peace terms between the King and powerful barons led by Lord Robert Fitzwalter; Hollenbeck reports from Windsor Castle; Daly and Roberts describe the crowds gathered in the meadow; Howe analyzes the charter; and Daly reports from Runnymede as King John signs the charter of liberties under threat of civil war.
