CBS IS THERE: POMPEII {AUGUST 26, 79 A.D.} (RADIO)
Summary
One in this series of dramas re-enacting major historical events and covering them as current news stories. This program dramatizes the destruction of Pompeii on August 26th, 79 A.D. CBS reporters talk with celebrities and politicians of the city who are waiting for a gladiator fight to begin in the amphitheater. These people comment on the extreme heat, the fashions of the times, and who they believe will win the upcoming fight. Then, the reporters observe the battle between two well known gladiators. Following this, a family of Nazarenes is brought out to be fed to hungry lions. As the family prays for help, Mount Vesuvius erupts and panic ensues. The reporters and the citizens of Pompeii attempt to escape to the beaches before they are covered by the hot lava pouring down upon the city of Pompeii. Also, a reporter stationed on a ship off the shores of Pompeii gives his observations of the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum, a nearby city. Includes promos.
