Summary
A radio adaptation by Quicksilver Radio Theater of Charles Dickens's Christmas classic about the miserly and misanthropic Scrooge, who is awakened to the joys of the holiday and the humanity of his brethren by the visits of several ghosts on Christmas Eve. This program marks the debut of Quicksilver, a group of New York actors dedicated to reviving the classic radio drama form in productions that include full cast, layered sound effects, and musical scores. With narration hewing closely to the original Dickens text, the play opens on Ebenezer Scrooge -- a man who denies his faithful employee Bob Cratchit an extra lump of coal to keep him warm, refuses his own nephew's invitation to join the family for some Christmas cheer, and rebuffs the requests of a charity seeker. That night, Scrooge is visited first by the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, and then by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. The visits show Scrooge the error of his ways and predict a dire future for him. The next morning, Scrooge awakens a changed man.
