LUX RADIO THEATRE: KEY LARGO {EDWARD G. ROBINSON, CLAIRE TREVOR & EDMOND O'BRIEN} (RADIO)
Summary
The first of two programs on this tape. One in this
dramatic anthology series which presents radio
adaptations of motion pictures featuring Hollywood
stars, often in roles they originated on screen. In
this program, Edward G. Robinson and Claire Trevor
reprise their roles from the 1948 Warner Bros. film.
Act one begins in the southernmost part of the United
States, Key Largo, where it is the dead summer season at
a resort hotel. Former soldier Major Frank McCloud
(Edmond O'Brien in the Humphrey Bogart film role) shows
up looking for the family of an army buddy, now
deceased. Frank finally finds his buddy's sister, an
alcoholic gangster's moll named Gaye. As a world-class
hurricane approaches the town, Gaye's beau, the infamous
Johnny Rocco, takes the inhabitants of the hotel
hostage. The second act begins with the hurricane fully
raging. Gaye and Frank fear Rocco and look for an
escape from their capture. Meanwhile, everyone ponders
what it is that Rocco desires. At the second
intermission, Warner Bros. starlet Debbie Reynolds
discusses her upcoming film. The third act begins as
the hurricane has ended, the hotel amazingly still
standing. It is ten at night and Frank wants to leave
town. However, Gaye wants him to stay and rescue her
from the clutches of Rocco. Includes commercials.
The acquisition and cataloging of The Theater Collection
was made possible by The Park Foundation, Inc., and the
Verizon Foundation.
