FAMILY GUY: ROAD TO GERMANY (TV)

Summary

One in this subversive animated series -- peppered with pop cultural non-sequiturs -- about Peter Griffin and his family, most notably their evil genius baby Stewie, and the talking, martini-swilling family dog, Brian. In this episode, the family watches the Academy Awards as Mort excuses himself to go to the bathroom. Entering Stewie's room by mistake, Mort confuses Stewie's time machine for a port-o-potty and gets sent back to Warsaw on Sept. 1, 1939. Realizing what happened to Mort, Stewie and Brian follow Mort to Poland, soon realizing that it's the day the country was invaded by Hitler. They find Mort in a synagogue to observe his grandfather's wedding, mistakenly thinking that he died and is seeing his ancestors in heaven. When the German army invades, the three try to get back to the present but find that the machine's return pad isn't working. Reasoning that Mort will only be safe from the Nazis in England, Stewie convinces Mort to disguise himself as a priest to get past guards. Upon being discovered, Mort flees in a sidecar with Stewie and Brian. The trio finally smuggle themselves onto a U-boat that allows them to reach London. Once there, however, Stewie realizes that the return pad requires uranium, which can only be found at an atomic research center in Berlin. Stewie joins the R.A.F. to pilot them back to Germany. Flying Norsemen aid them when the Luftwaffe attacks, though the trio is forced to evacuate their crashing plane. Upon landing, they find their way to Berlin and impersonate Nazi officers to get inside the lab. After workers think him to be Hitler, Stewie secures the uranium and prepares for the trip home. However, the trio then runs into the real Hitler. The Fuhrer threatens to execute the trio unless Stewie and Brian sing a musical number. Mort cuts off the song and activates the return pad. Upon being back in the Griffins' home, Stewie acknowledges to Brian that Mort has too much "secret" knowledge and must be killed. Stewie realizes that it's thirty seconds before the moment that Mort originally entered the time machine, allowing for time-traveling Mort to be shot without harming real-time Mort. The deed is done, right before real-time Mort enters in search of a bathroom.
