PRIVATE PRACTICE: IN WHICH CHARLOTTE GOES DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE (TV)
Summary
One in this medical drama series spun off from "Grey’s Anatomy" that chronicles the lives of Dr. Addison Montgomery and her friends and fellow doctors at Oceanside Wellness Group in Los Angeles. In this episode, Naomi nervously prepares for a date and Pete continues flirting with Addison, though she again turns him down. Later, Naomi invites Addison to assist her with a patient, Angie, who is attempting to get pregnant, and Cooper treats a girl, Tess, whose mother Marilyn has MS and is Sam's patient, and notices the suspicious nature of her injuries. Charlotte barges into the clinic and demands Sam's help for her insomnia, though she refuses pills, hinting that she had a "problem" in the past. Pete attempts to treat her with magnets, though she is rudely dismissive of his alternative methods. Addison admits to Naomi that she wants a "real" relationship with the possibility of marriage and kids, and Angie begs the doctors to lie and tell Ray that he is infertile, as she secretly does not want children. Cooper looks through Tess' records and concludes that she is indeed being abused at home, though Sam angrily denies that Marilyn could be at fault.
Angie returns and admits that she may have Huntington's disease and never considered having children before falling in love with Ray, but now wants to be tested. A still-sleepless Charlotte hangs around Oceanside and annoys everyone, and Cooper notes that Violet has no interest in having children herself. Tess and Marilyn arrive, angry that Cooper called social services on them, and Tess firmly denies that her mother is abusive. Sam observes that there is "some kind of thing" between Dell and Naomi, though Naomi dismisses it as non-serious. Pete continues flirting with Addison, who is amused at his frustration over Charlotte. A social worker tells Cooper and Sam that Tess will be placed in foster care if her home is found to be dangerous, though Sam points out that Marilyn requires her daughter's help. Naomi, Addison and Violet break the news to Angie that she does indeed have Huntington's and encourage her to tell Ray the truth. Pete begs Violet to sit down with Charlotte, and Violet quickly observes that Charlotte has intimacy issues that may be affecting her sleep. Pete attempts yet again to treat her with holistic methods, and Charlotte admits that her family was not given to "displays."
Ray arrives in a panic, stating that Angie has abruptly left him. Dell notes that Tess has other subtle signs of abuse, revealing that he grew up in a similar situation. Charlotte finally falls asleep and Cooper heads for Tess' hearing, and when the girl finally admits that her mother hits her, Cooper firmly tells her that she should not have to endure such things. Charlotte wakes up and declares that she simply "hit a wall," denying that Pete made any kind of a breakthrough. Sam calls Marilyn out on her behavior, regretfully realizing that he should have noticed the abuse. Addison finds Angie and encourages her to live a full life despite her disease, and she eventually returns with Ray, explaining that they still want to have a child together. Later, the doctors discuss how they would handle the prospect of a greatly shortened life span, and Cooper again questions Violet about her disinterest in children. Dell talks to Naomi and makes his strong feelings for her clear, and Addison finally kisses Pete, but then informs him that she wants more than "fun" in a relationship.
