GREY'S ANATOMY: HAUNT YOU EVERY DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic medical series about the lives and loves of a group of surgeons at a Seattle hospital. In this episode, on Halloween, Meredith suffers strange dreams and, deciding that her mother's ashes are haunting her, takes them to work in a plastic bag. Cristina hands Burke's former apartment over to Richard, as he is living in a hotel since splitting up with Adele, and Izzie is stunned when Callie bluntly informs the entire team about her affair with George. George intervenes when a patient, Erin Shandley, chastises Lexie about her father Jack's case, also informing her that Cristina was teasing when she told her to wear a costume to work. Bailey is baffled when a man, James, comes into the hospital requesting that his healthy foot be amputated, as he feels that it is not "his." Meredith tries to tell Derek about her need to put her mother to rest, but they are interrupted by Ryan, a young boy with an ear deformity. Mark learns that the many nurses he has romanced have formed a "club" against him, and is momentarily shocked when Ryan, on Derek's orders, pretends to be his long-lost son. He then attempts to sweet-talk him into performing surgery on his ears pro bono, but Mark protests that he would need many others' help and is unpopular with the nurses at the moment. Meredith offers to help, however, as she has pull because of her famous mother, and Mark agrees.
Alex ignores Norman's complaints of feeling ill and is stunned by the return of Ava, though she halts their romantic reunion by pointing out that he "chickened out" of pursing her once before. Bailey gives James a prescription to treat his body dysmorphic disorder, and Meredith cajoles Richard into the pro bono surgery by mentioning Ellis. George and Izzie are shocked when Erin is brought into the E.R. with a fatal brain injury, and as Bailey treats a man who lost a finger during the city's annual chainsaw pumpkin-carving contest, James steals the saw and takes matters into his own hands, much to everyone's shock. Mark offers to "help" Callie through her breakup, and Derek is confused when Sydney Heron introduces herself to him flirtatiously. Bailey too falls victim to Ryan's charms and agrees to the surgery, and Jack is devastated to learn of Erin's death and refuses to accept her heart, saying that he cannot bear the thought of living with his daughter's organ. Meredith tries to process the fact that George and Izzie are now "together-together," though Cristina makes her disapproval plain. Alex ignores Norman's pages as he spends time with Ava, who tries to avoid discussing her husband, and the two soon fall asleep together. Hahn arrives to retrieve Erin's donor heart and Izzie and Cristina jockey for a spot on the surgery, and Cristina is stunned when Hahn suggests that Cristina dates her superiors to make up for a lack of talent and selects Izzie instead.
Hahn tries to convince Jack to accept Erin's heart, but George has more success when he mentions his own father's death and gently assures Jack that his daughter would want him to go through with it. Izzie confronts Cristina and points out that she does not judge Meredith for sleeping with a married man, saying the two of them are a "closed circle." Derek realizes that Mark set Sydney on him as revenge, and Callie and Cristina begin to bond over their disastrous marriages. Mark observes that Meredith is not at all like Ellis as they prepare for Ryan's surgery, and Alex rushes into the OR upon learning that Norman has suffered a stroke. Jack receives Erin's heart, and Lexie offers some strange-but-sweet comfort to Meredith about her mother's death. Bailey assures George that he is "not a bad guy" despite his affair, revealing her own marital problems when she laments missing her son's first Halloween because of work. Yang confronts Hahn about her "unprofessional" comments, but then learns that she is the new head of the cardiothoracic program. A recovering Norman tells Alex that he has decided to pursue psychiatry instead, and Alex finds that Ava has left again. Derek concludes that he must begin dating for real, and George and Izzie express relief over having survived the embarrassing day. Callie moves into Cristina's messy apartment and, acting on Ryan's advice, Meredith finally rinses her mother's ashes down the surgical sink in her beloved OR, assisted by Richard.
