UGLY BETTY: A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, Betty tells Henry that they should avoid each other in the five months before he goes back to Tucson to raise his baby with Charlie. However, he becomes jealous after Kenny tells him that Betty is meeting a blind date at a bowling alley that night. Later, Betty and Daniel attend a Mode meeting where they learn from Wilhelmina that more advertisers are dropping out due to Daniel's refusal to accommodate Luke's request about firing Alexis. In the meantime, Wilhelmina furthers her scheme to sabotage Mode. In Queens, Justin continues to display a bad attitude toward Hilda and Ignacio, then "borrows" the family car for a joy ride with his thug-like new friends. Hilda doesn't notice, as she remains intent on partying with the group of elderly widows who've become her buddies since Santos's death. On Long Island, Claire tells Yoga that she's turning herself in -- until she sees an invitation to Bradford and Wilhelmina's nuptials. Claire then grabs a shotgun and heads to Bradford's house.
Later, Wilhelmina orders Marc to supervise a Mode underwear shoot, where he meets and jokes with burly photographer Cliff St. Paul. Marc agrees to see "Psycho" with Cliff that night, but forgets the plan when -- to spite Amanda -- he scores an evening hookup with handsome underwear model Gus. Later, Marc realizes that Cliff had romantic intentions and he apologizes to the photographer. However, Cliff takes him to task and disappears. That night, Betty meets her date at the bowling alley, and he sneaks away after being turned off by her non-stop chatter. Henry observes the goings-on and tells Betty that her date got sick. The two go out for dinner, and Betty confesses that she knew her date deserted her. The discussion with Henry ends awkwardly, after which she flees the restaurant. Back at Mode, Christina gets a shocking blast from the past via a dating site's message from her long-forgotten husband.
At Bradford's home, Daniel and Alexis arrive for dinner with Bradford and Wilhelmina. Spying outside, Claire is incensed at the sight of the family's happiness without her, taking aim at Wilhelmina with the rifle. Just then, Yoga arrives and convinces Claire to put down the gun and go on the lam with her to Italy. Inside, Daniel tells Bradford about Mode's loss in advertising, causing Bradford to angrily lash out at his son. While observing the exchange, Alexis gets her memory back, recalling how Bradford rejected her after announcing her plan to be surgically altered. Alexis then tells Daniel that she now knows that she was responsible for their accident, having arranged for the brakes to be cut on Bradford's car -- which resulted in the crash. Across town, Marc arrives at Cliff's apartment, admitting that he's glad that he turned down the date with Gus, realizing that Cliff's personality trumps Gus's physique.
Back in Queens, Hilda and Ignacio are horrified when police bring Justin back to the house, informing the pair that he drove their car into a tree. Hilda realizes that Justin should be her priority as she bids her elderly friends goodbye. She then confronts Justin on his recent actions and the pair tearfully reconcile. Outside, Betty faces off with Henry, who followed her home from the restaurant. She asks him to leave Mode so that they'll no longer run into each other, and he agrees. Moments later, she changes her mind and the pair kiss after opting to make the most of the remaining time before Henry's return to Arizona. Includes commercials.
