UGLY BETTY: BETTY'S WAIT PROBLEM (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, Betty tells a drunken Henry that they can't be together until the parentage of Charlie's baby is determined. The next morning, Henry struggles with Hilda's cure for hangovers. At Mode, former lovers Daniel and Amanda celebrate upon learning that she's not Bradford's daughter -- and Daniel's half-sister. Meanwhile, Betty and Christina continue last-minute preparations for Mode's Black & White Ball. Taking a break, Betty finds herself drawn to the building's new sandwich vendor, Gio. That changes when she complains about her sandwich and he makes fun of her arguments. After Betty conveys the incident to her boss, Daniel gets Gio fired.
At the hospital, a scheming Wilhelmina visits amnesia-plagued Alexis and pretends that they have always been best friends. She then tells Alexis that Bradford postponed his marriage to her over concerns about the accident. Elsewhere, Claire is thrilled at news of the marriage's delay and plans to crash the ball with Yoga in tow. Amanda also has designs to attend the soiree with Marc, as a means of announcing her "coming out" as Fey's illegitimate daughter. In Mexico, Ignacio is held at gunpoint by Ramiro, who is still angry about Ignacio -- his former cook -- having tried to murder him before running off with his wife, though it happened decades ago. Ramiro refused to acknowledge having beaten Rosa, and bullied everyone in his sphere. After Ignacio momentarily pleases Ramiro by whipping up his famed flan, Hector decides to be Ignacio's killer. However, Ignacio reminds Hector of how his father beat him as a child, resulting in Hector shooting Ramiro instead.
When Betty apologizes to Gio, he says he's happier pursuing his dreams, despite being short of cash. She then hires him to drive her to New Jersey to pick up a high-powered wheelchair for Daniel. Along the way, Gio chastises her for neglecting her aspirations to become a writer. Back at Mode, Justin puts his intern duties on hold and asks Daniel to teach him to play basketball, thinking he can honor his late father. During the game, Daniel accidentally reveals that he can walk, with his wheelchair status having served as a means of wooing his physical therapist. Justin promises to keep the secret, but Hilda finds some incriminating photos, and then tells Betty. Later that afternoon, Daniel inadvertently exposes his deception to Betty, leaving her furious.
At the ball, a disappointed Amanda can't understand why red carpet photographers ignore her in favor of Fey's dog, Halston. Marc intercedes, and creates a publicity stunt that turns the tide. When Claire and Yoga arrive, Claire finds Bradford and pledges her love to him. He doesn't admit having told Wilhelmina that Alexis now supports the wedding. To cement her status as a bride-to-be, Wilhelmina takes over the podium and announces that the nuptials have been rescheduled, leaving Claire devastated.
The next morning at Mode, a depressed Amanda tells Marc that tabloid publicity isn't enough for her; she needs to find her real father. At the same time, Betty and Daniel make up, after which Betty says that she's enrolling in a writing class. Henry then corners Betty and states that Charlie admitted to her infidelity and has agreed to a paternity test. That night, Betty, Hilda, and Justin relax at home, then rejoice as Ignacio finally walks through the door. Includes commercials.
