UGLY BETTY: EAST SIDE STORY {SEASON ONE FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.

In this episode, Betty is duped by Daniel when he says that his black eye resulted from saving a drowning girl in Central Park. Elsewhere, Wilhelmina is less than thrilled by the engagement ring presented by Bradford. In prison, Claire asks Yoga to help her escape, thinking that she can prevent Bradford from marrying Wilhelmina. Back at the office, Henry tells Betty that he has broken up with Charlie and hopes the two of them can now be together. As Hilda plans her wedding to Santos, Wilhelmina's nuptials hit a snag upon discovering that Fabia is being wed in the same church on the same day. Meanwhile, Betty unintentionally aids Alexis's scheme to publicize Daniel's "heroics." When Alexis showcases Daniel as a fraud at a press conference, Daniel admits to a disappointed Betty that the injuries resulted from being pummeled by his drug dealer.

Later, Betty prepares a meal for Henry after talking with Ignacio, who is still stranded in Mexico. When the doorbell rings, Charlie enters and tells Betty that she's pregnant with Henry's child. Justin is thrilled when he inherits the lead in his school's production of "West Side Story," though he admits to Hilda that he may have contributed to the lead actor getting food poisoning. Elsewhere, Christina tussles with Amanda, during which they get locked inside Fey's secret love dungeon.

Daniel is devastated to find out that Wilhelmina is to be his stepmother. Bad news is also in store for Betty, as Henry tells her that he now has to marry Charlie. After Fabia acquires Marc's services from Wilhelmina -- the condition for Fabia to change her wedding date -- Marc admits to Wilhelmina that he's suffering under Fabia. As Santos promises to be at Justin's performance, a drugged-up Daniel tells Alexis that he's leaving the firm. Alexis thinks Daniel has overdosed and drives him to the hospital, just as Betty accidentally discovers that Charlie has been dating her dentist and cheating on Henry. Betty then tries to stop Henry's flight to Tucson.

Christina and Amanda find Fey's safe and crack it, discovering a birth certificate identifying Fey as Amanda's mother. As Santos goes shopping before heading to Justin's high school, he realizes that the store is being robbed and is shot by the gunman. Elsewhere, Claire and Yoga escape while being transported between prisons. In another road-based drama, Alexis figures out that the brakes on Bradford's car have been cut, causing her and Daniel to crash en route to the hospital. As Betty heads to the airport, police come to the house with news about Santos, allowing Charlie to fly off with Henry. Justin reaches the climax of his "West Side Story" performance, coinciding with Betty's arrival at the high school, where she tells a horrified Hilda that Santos is dead. Includes commercials.
