GREY'S ANATOMY: SOME KIND OF MIRACLE (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic medical series about the lives and loves of a group of surgeons at a Seattle hospital. In this episode, Bailey, Burke and Webber frantically attempt to revive Meredith, remembering the medical axiom that she is "not dead until she's warm and dead." Elsewhere, Meredith thrilled to be reunited with her beloved late dog Doc, unconcerned by Denny and Dylan's warnings that she is in fact dead as well. Addison tells the others that Meredith's prognosis is grim, though Izzie remains convinced that she will survive. Alex tends to Jane Doe, who is still experiencing severe memory loss, and Meredith is visited by more ghosts, including Ellis' former scrub nurse and Bonnie from the bus crash, who begins to "die" anew as Meredith tries to save her. Cristina "copes" by going on a discount shopping spree and camping out at Joe's Bar, and Bailey sends Callie, Izzie and George to the clinic to assist with the other crash victims. Sydney urges everyone to donate blood, and Callie finally confronts Izzie about her rudeness, pointing out that she is now George's wife and that Izzie will alienate her best friend by snubbing her.
Bonnie objects to Meredith's cavalier attitude about death, though Meredith protests that she "fought" when she fell into the water. Derek bonds with a worried man in the waiting room, and an annoyed Dylan points out that Meredith and Denny are "stuck," whereas he has accepted his death and moved on. Bailey worries when Meredith fails to warm up sufficiently, and Derek angrily tells Ellis that she "broke" her daughter with her cruelty and possibly made her suicidal, though Addison sternly reminds him that Meredith still has a chance. Denny informs Meredith that her death will destroy Cristina, Derek and the others, and Bailey gets an idea for a bypass that could save her. Burke visits Joe's and urges Cristina to stay by "her person's" side should the worst come to pass, and Meredith finally admits that she allowed herself to drown, seeing no point in continuing to fight. Denny tells her that he still experiences "moments" with Izzie, though nothing more, and George confronts Izzie about her treatment of Callie, telling her that he needs his best friend with him during this uncertain time.
Derek works on a deteriorating Ellis and hears about the bypass plan, and Meredith begins to panic, deciding that she wants to "go back" and be with her loved ones. Cristina barges into the exam room and finds that Meredith has not revived despite being successfully warmed back to normal temperature, and she furiously orders the others to continue trying to save her. Meredith is shocked to encounter Ellis, who tells her to "keep going" and retracts her previous accusation that she is "ordinary," and everyone is deeply relieved when her heartbeat resumes. Bailey is unsure about her brain function, but Meredith wakes up and speaks to Cristina, who excitedly tells her that she is engaged to Burke, explaining that she is "the one person she wanted to tell." Derek visits Meredith, who already understands that her mother has died, and Addison observes that he and Meredith share something that they never did. When Mark again offers his affections, she challenges him to go sixty days without sex, and he counters that she too must abstain. Alex bonds with Jane Doe, telling her that her baby is a girl, and Sydney praises Bailey's skill in reviving Meredith. George rejects Izzie's attempts to repair their rift, and Webber finally bids an emotional goodbye to Ellis as Izzie seems to share a brief "moment" with Denny before he vanishes again.
