HOPE & FAITH: HOPE'S FLOAT {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The finale in this comedy series about Hope Shanowski and her family, including her outrageous former soap-star sister Faith Fairfield. In this episode, Sydney "studies" by watching music videos and Hope and Charley show off their dorky dance moves when an old Huey Lewis and the News concert comes on. They realize that it is the very concert that they missed back in their college dating days, thanks to a fight on the same evening. In a flashback, Hope tells her roommate that she and Charley intend to sleep together for the first time that night after the concert, as it is their twelfth date, but Faith arrives in tears, explaining that she lost out on the lead role in the school play. When Charley arrives, Hope tells him that she must tend to her sister instead, and he is annoyed at the idea of always being second in her life and leaves. Hope eagerly suggests that they spend all night working on her floral sorority parade float, though Faith is less thrilled by the idea. In the present, however, Sydney spots Charley on TV at the concert after all, accompanied by none other than Faith.

In the flashback, Charley heads to a bar and runs into Harvard student "Simone," really Faith with her fake ID, and she convinces him to take her to the concert instead when she hears about how his girlfriend flaked at the last minute. They soon regret the decision, however, as he finds her annoying and she finds him square, and in the present, Hope asks why they kept the truth from her for all these years if the "date" was such a disaster. In the past, Charley heads for the sorority float to make up with Hope and runs into Faith again, who realizes that he is the "drip" dating her sister. They continue arguing and he chastises her for smoking, and she unintentionally ends up setting fire to the float. In the morning, Charley arrives at Hope's dorm with flowers and they make up. She "introduces" him to Faith and they privately threaten to rat one another out, but Hope is then upset to learn that someone burned down her float and Charley and Faith decide not to correct her when she suspects a rival of the crime. In the present, Hope is exasperated to hear the truth after so many years, but decides to forgive them both, and Faith points out that she is really to thank for their ending up together. Sydney then spots Hope on TV as well, revealing that she too attended the concert after all. Includes commercials and promos.
