BARRY MANILOW: BIG FUN ON SWING STREET (TV)

Summary

This televised concert special features the musical stylings of Barry Manilow, featuring several guest performers. The program begins as Manilow chats about his love of '40s-style music and suggests combining it with current '80s tunes. He journeys to "Swing Street," an imaginative, old-fashioned musical city scene, and performs with a number of dancers, next singing "Big Fun." Guest performers King Creole and the Coconuts join Manilow for "If You Wanna Be Happy," followed by "Hey Mambo." Manilow then sings "Stardust" alone. Singer Phyllis Hyman and cellist Stanley Clarke perform a sad love ballad together, and Manilow enters a jazz club, where Diane Schuur sings "Summertime," accompanied by Tom Scott. Manilow then joins Schuur on "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)", featuring Dana Robbins on saxophone, followed by "When October Goes" and "Black and Blue" with Hyman. Manilow then sings "Paradise Café" and introduces singer Carmen McRae, who performs "Blue." Manilow takes to the streets again and performs "Dancin' Fool," followed by "Stompin' at the Savoy" with a number of dancers and instrumentalists. He then departs Swing Street, closing with "One More Time." Commercials deleted.
